Mansaray Foundation Collaboration

As a way of enhancing soil fertility and ensuring a bountiful harvest of crops, Forum for Agriculture, innovation and empowerment for Children and Youths in partnership with The Mansaray Foundation, organized a training session on fertilizer production for local farmers working with The Mansary Foundation. The training took place on the 10th of February 2024 at the Kambombeh community, Saffrokoh Limba Chiefdom, Bombali District, in the northern part of Sierra Leone.

During the training, the farmers learned about the three different types of soil present in their community and how they can utilize compost made from cow dung, urine, ashes, molasses, and water to improve soil fertility. This knowledge will enable them to make their own organic fertilizers, reducing their reliance on chemical fertilizers and promoting sustainable farming practices

.

By empowering the farmers with the skills and knowledge to produce their own fertilizers, FAIECY-SL and The Mansaray Foundation aim to create a more self-sufficient and environmentally friendly agricultural system in the community. This initiative not only benefits the farmers by improving crop yields but also contributes to our overarching goal of reducing complications of malnutrition in pregnant, lactating women and children under 5. This initiative promotes the health and well-being of the locals by encouraging community led, locally grown food to support improved health outcomes.

Modern, community-led, eco-friendly agricultural practices is our concerted initiative to address food insecurity.

Success Stories

One of our significant achievements started last year when we started providing a consultancy service with The Mansaray Foundation

Their work is centered on improving and expanding access to quality maternal healthcare and reduce maternal deaths in rural Sierra Leone. In achieving the reduction of maternal deaths in rural communities, they have a feeding programs for pregnant women at one of their supported clinics at Kambombeh community, Safroko Limba Chiefdom, Bombali District with the objective of encouraging normal visits and regular check up for pregnant women.

To sustain their feeding program, FAIECY-SL was hired as a consultancy organization to support the local farmers with climate smart agricultural techniques in doing farming activities that will in return help sustain the feeding program with nutritious home grown foods.

Today we feel so happy in seeing pregnant women eating their own foodstuffs, and feeling proud of the support they have gained from us, and the Mansaray Foundation.

As a youth led organization, we remain committed in providing such services to any organization or foundation that may need our support, and we want to say thanks to the Mansaray Foundation for their unwavering efforts in supporting us, and believing in the power of young people to effect change.
